5 Local Farms and Ranches To Support in and Around Wilbarger County, Texas

If you’re anything like us, you feel lucky to live in a thriving farming and ranching community like Vernon. And what better way to express your gratitude than to help out our local farmers and ranchers? If you want to show your appreciation, here are five regional and local farms and ranches you can support.

5 Local and Regional Farms and Ranches To Support In and Around Wilbarger County, Texas

1. Morath Orchard – Charlie, TX

Morath Orchard began as a small family farm in 1981. In the 42 years since, the single peach orchard has grown to include a greater variety and quantity of fruits and vegetables – but the orchard is still family owned and operated. Morath Orchard doesn’t only produce fresh local produce. They offer farm tours, farm-to-table dinners, and a corn maze in the fall.

They also have a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program. CSA is a “unique partnership of mutual support and commitment between local farmers and community members.” CSA members pay a fee to help cover initial farm costs and in turn receive a weekly share of harvest during the growing season.

You can find Morath Orchard produce at the Vernon Farmers Market and the Wichita Falls Farmers Market

2. Crownover Farms – Vernon, TX

Crownover Farms is locally owned right here in Vernon by Cody and Kandice Crownover. They grow several types of produce, including watermelons, cantaloupe, black-eyed peas, okra, and corn.

You can find Crownover Farms produce at the Vernon Farmers Market.

3. Pease River Farm

This local farm is owned by Chris and Katie Clerihew and produces vegetables and fruits, including sweet corn, black-eyed peas, okra, summer squash, zucchini, cucumbers, onions, watermelon and cantaloupes.

You can find Pease River Farm produce at the Vernon Farmers Market.

4. TZ Bar Ranch

The Chapman family has worked the land now known as the TZ Bar Ranch since 1889. Over 130 years later, TZ Bar Ranch is still an important part of what makes Vernon special. The ranch provides land for cattle rearing, as well as hunting, fishing and cotton farming.

You can find out more on the TZ Bar Ranch website.

5. W.T. Waggoner Ranch

W.T. Waggoner Ranch was started way back in 1849 by Dan Waggoner. It now stretches into six counties, with the main office right here in Vernon.

This iconic ranch is best known as the “largest ranch under one fence” in Texas. It includes a farm, horses and a herd of about 10,000 mother cows. They farm thousands of pounds of crops each year that are used to graze cattle or are sold to local distributors. The ranch is also currently developing hunting opportunities for quail, wild hog and deer.
